Anthony Giacoppo of the Genesys Wealth Advisors Cycling team has won stage 2 of the Santos North Western Tour and with it he has also taken the overall leaders jersey.
Anthony finished 6th, just 6 seconds behind in the opening prologue and then went on to comfortably win the sprint in stage 2 to claim the leaders jersey after receiving a time bonus of 10 seconds.
Anthony was clearly very pleased with his teams efforts to support his bid for the overall and stage victories. “ The team did an awesome job for me to set up the lead out and Pat Shaw finished it off for me by giving me an awesome leadout into the final corner. I kicked with about 200m to go and won by about 8-10 lengths. I am very pleased to repay the boys for all their hard work with a stage win, the jersey is a bonus for now”
Due to his win in stage 2 Anthony also has claimed the points jersey.
Stage 3 continues on Friday with a 126km stage into Siding springs.
