DEFENDING champion Anthony Giacoppo of Huon Salmon Genesys Wealth Advisors has continued his run of form by clinching impressive back to back stage wins in the Campolina-Fulton Hogan Tour of the Great South Coast today.

Anthony took out the Glenelg Shire Portland Criterium before backing up with a bunch sprint victory in the gruelling Heywood to Casterton road race in the afternoon.

“I came in with a goal of trying to get three stage wins and now I’m well on my way,” he said. “I’ve had a slow start to the year – I had a bit of illness and a few injuries which slowed me down a little, so it’s good to get some form back.” The West Australian joked to the crowd at this morning’s criterium presentations that he would need a head start to be a chance to make it back-to-back stage victories, however he found himself in serious contention in the 92.9km road race, which featured eight hill climbs on the approach to the finish line in Casterton.

“This was certainly a tough one, I came over the top of the climbs in the second group and managed to get back up to the leaders. I tried to get in a few little moves here and there and when it came down to a bunch sprint, I knew there weren’t a lot of sprinters left.”
