Anthony Giacoppo of Huon Salmon Genesys Wealth Advisors Cycling team has claimed stage two of the Battle of the Border in a hotly contested bunch sprint against Neil Van Der Ploeg and Jesse Kerrison.

Anthony spent most of the day working on the front of the bunch to defend his team mate Jack Haig who leads the tour after winning stage one up Mt Warning. Anthony also made the selection on stage one and ended up driving on the front to set up his team mate into the bottom of the final climb. Today was Anthon’s turn to step onto the top step of the podium for 2013 after a highly successful 2012 season which saw him win the Scody Cup series, The Australian National Criterium Title as well as numerous wins on the UCI Asia tours and the NRS series.

“I’m super happy to be able to walk away with a stage win today to get a result after riding the majority of the race on the front with two of my team mates to keep our GC rider in the race lead and still be able to produce a good sprint claiming the stage win was a bonus and a great way to reward myself and the team from today’s efforts. After riding the Tour Down Under earlier this year I’m hungrier than ever to get up there and mix it again with the best! Hopefully if I keep racking up the results throughout the year I can find a place within one of the bigger teams in the world.”

Anthony will now head to Asia to contest the Tour of Japan.

Cameron Meyer has capped off a successful return to his European Racing campaign at the recent Circuit Cycliste Sarthe- Pays de la Loire.

After an eventful start to the 2013 season where Cameron captured the Australian National Criterium Championship, he then opted for elective surgery on a saddle sore, after missing out on a ride at the Tour Down Under.
The healing process took longer than expected due to an infection and Cameron again missed his next scheduled race at the tour of Langkawi. He then headed to Europe and was slightly cautious on his form when he took the start at the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe- Pays de la Loire. However, he had every reason to be smiling as he ended up with a fine 3rd place in the ITT and then had a strong performance on the final stage to capture the KOM jersey.
Cameron will continue his progression towards top form as he takes the start in the upcoming Tour of Turkey.

Damien Howson has done the double by winning the U23 Oceania Road Race on top of the U23 Time Trial.

In a fast and furious road race he was the only rider who could hold Cameron Meyer’s wheel after they both were in a break of about 14 riders. Damian was clearly happy to take the win and is looking forward to his season in Europe with the Australian World Tour Academy.

“I am in my third year of u23′s and am now chasing my life dream of becoming a professional cyclist in a World Tour team in the near future. After what I believe to be a successful start to the year I look to continue to progress, improve and ultimately achieve consistent results throughout the year. I particularly have big ambitions at the 2013 World Championships in the ITT aiming to exchange last year’s Bronze medal into a Gold Medal and rainbow bands. The Oceania Championship wins in both ITT and road race have opened positions for me at these world championships and I look forward to the challenge.”

Cameron Meyer has won the Open Men’s Oceania Road Race Championships.

After a very hotly contested race lasting nearly 4 hours it came down to a sprint between Damien Howson and Cameron. Cameron had managed to successfully whittle down the breakaway group of round 14 riders to eventually have just himself and Damien Howson contest the finale. Each time up the hill on finishing circuits, Cameron put in a multitude of attacks to shed the guys who would pose a threat in the sprint at the end. Neil Van Der Ploeg was the most obvious danger as he is a known fast man and had t be dispensed with on the climbs. Cameron was clearly pleased with his win and more importantly happy with how his condition is after a frustrating last few months overcoming a saddle sore infection.

Cameron states:
“It was great to get my racing season underway and I was very happy with the win. It was a tough race with over 2500m climbing and I was surprised to see an average of 315 watts for the 150km. This gives me good confidence that I am back on track after my injury and I look forward to heading to Europe for the Tour Turkey, California and Suisse.”

Damien Howson has continued his steady progression towards a berth in one of the world’s leading teams by winning the Oceania U23 Time Trial Title. Damien also won the Australian U23 Time Trial championships in January and so takes the double!
Damien is in his last year as an U23 and will be looking to go 2 steps better than last year Bronze at the World Championships in the U23 TT.
Damien will now look to heading over to Europe where he will form a key player in the Jayco AIS World Tour Academy.
Damien is looking to attract the interest of one of the leading world Tour teams and start his road career as a professional rider in 2014.

Nathan Earle of Huon Salmon Genesys Wealth Advisors has claimed another win in the NZ Cycle Classic.
On a hilltop finish Nathan was the first to the summit ahead of Michael Torckler.
Nathan now leads the overall by 1min 16 seconds with one stage to go.

Nathan Earle of Huon Salmon Genesys Wealth Advisors has won the 2nd stage of the NZ Cycle classic.
He went solo with about 20km to go after he attacked his breakaway companions which by this point had been whittled down to 12.

He held on to win by 31seconds and now holds the leaders jersey by 36 seconds from his team mate Ben Dyball.
Nathan has continued his run of form after claiming a superb victory in the final stage of the Jayco Herald Suntour.

Cameron Meyer has won the Australian Open Men’s Criterium Championship.

In a dominant display, Cameron rode off the front for almost the entire bike race, and eventually won by a comfortable margin of 16 seconds. Team after team tried to bring him back but he kept forcing the pedals around to hold his advantage. Impressively Cameron averaged nearly 400 watts for the hour long criterium and has shown that he is in good condition leading into the Road title on Sunday.

He will then look to get a ride in the Tour Down Under with his Orica GreenEdge team

Aaron Donnelly of  Huon Salmon Genesys Wealth Advisers racing team has won the sprinters classification of the 2013 Jayco Herald Suntour.

After claiming the win on stage 1 and wearing the leaders jersey for 2 days before finally finishing 2^nd overall, Aaron was pleased to come away with a classification jersey after all the hard work he had put in to try to hold onto the overall leaders jersey.

In a star studded field the young Australian showed that he has the class to match it with some of the world’s leading riders, and plenty of grit too!

Aaron will now get ready for the Australian Open Road championships in Ballarat next week.

Lion Sports Management is pleased to announce that 3 riders under management have been selected to ride the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under as part of the UniSa team.

Anthony Giacoppo has been pre selected from the elite men, and both Damien Howson and Adam Phelan have been preselected from the U23 men.

All 3 will make their debut at this years Santos Tour down Under which starts on 20th January.
